As I found out on my morning commute today, using these classic rims with the traditional bead hook didn’t work.  Fortunately we were prepared with an extra inner tube and backup tyre (Schwalbe Durano Plus).

This tyre already had blown off a rim before, so I can’t say if that’s the reason why it happened again today. Maybe that caused the bead to stretch. Still got the rear tyre on and we’ll see how that goes.  I will be carrying another spare Durano in the meantime, together with a couple of extra co2 cartridges and spare inner tubes.

Guess these wheels will carry me through the winter on  a set of Conti Top Contact Winter II Premium tyres.

In the meantime, I’ll be looking for a set of second hand dt swiss 240s to lace the carbon tubular 38mm rims around.   Those hubs allow me to easily switch between freehub bodies like the SRAM xd driver and Shimano’s mtb and road hubs as well as between thru axle and quick release (for the BMC).

I really like the ride of these Strada Bianca’s and in tubular version, they should  be bloody amazing!

Durano to the rescue
